As a kid, I was fascinated by home design and how those designs became reality. In the late 1970’s I was given my grandfather’s drafting tools so I could begin to draw my own plans – many hours were spent designing and redesigning those first homes. My family can attest to the hours I would spend studying plan books, and daydreaming about the homes I would someday build. As I grew, I thought that I would pursue an engineering degree, but my love of home design and construction was too strong resulting in, at the end of college, a Bachelors of Science degree in Construction Science and Management. I obtained my Michigan Residential Builders License in 1993 and have been professionally part of the residential building industry ever since.

I began my professional career getting my feet wet in new home sales, operational management, and construction estimating roles. I then began my own architectural design business in West Michigan designing homes for many of the area’s home builders. In 2005 I was given the opportunity to join Troxel Custom Homes, a builder that I had admired for the quality homes they consistently created. Eventually, in 2015 I began talks with Brian Troxel (then the owner of Troxel Custom Homes) to assume leadership and ownership of the business. I truly feel blessed to work every day in an industry that I love and to be part of the process of creating something exceptional for our homeowners that will enhance their lives.

After my daughter told me that my singing sounded “like a pig in pain,” I decided to give up my aspirations to be discovered by American Idol and now focus my time away from the office and home by helping others to be the best they can be. This is played out by sitting on the Board of Education for a local public school and by mentoring younger men of the community.

Even though I have had the privilege to travel to many areas around the globe, every time I come back to West Michigan, I know I am “home”. I enjoy being an active part of my community and have been an active board member of multiple organizations in the area.  I often find myself mentoring other men in various capacities as I believe it is important to build up others and help them be the best they can be.  My wife Angela (whom I decided to marry on our first date) and I live in Zeeland, Michigan. We are proud parents, are (almost) empty nesters, and now are enjoying the role of being grandparents. I have to admit that being a grandpa is by far the best role I have ever had! We are a social family and enjoy “doing life together”. I also enjoy sailing, biking, working with my hands, classic cars, good food, good beer, and spending time with good friends.
