Summer Home Maintenance Tips from Your Trusted Custom Home Builder in Holland, Michigan

Summer Home Maintenance Tips from Your Trusted Custom Home Builder in Holland, Michigan

As the temperatures rise and the days get longer, it’s the perfect time to make sure your home is ready for everything summer brings. At Troxel Custom Homes, we know that maintaining your home seasonally is just as important as building it right from the start. Whether you’re living in your forever home or planning your dream custom build, summer maintenance helps protect your investment and keep your home running efficiently year after year.

Here are 5 essential summer home maintenance tips from our team of experienced builders and home experts:

  • Service your HVAC System: Summer heat can push your cooling system to the limit. Clean or replace filters monthly and schedule a professional tune-up to ensure it’s running efficiently and not driving up your energy bill.
  • Trim Landscaping Around Your Home: Overgrown trees and shrubs can cause damage to siding, reduce airflow, and become a breeding ground for pests. Keep your landscaping neat and well-maintained to avoid long-term issues.
  • Power Wash Exterior Surfaces: Siding, decks, patios, and even driveways accumulate pollen, mold and grime fast in warm weather. A good power wash boots curb appeal and extends the life of your exterior materials.
  • Inspect Gutters and Downspouts: Summer storms can cause debris to build-up in your gutters, leading to poor drainage and potential water damage. Check them regularly and clear out blockages before they become a problem.
  • Consider Smart Shading for Energy Efficiency: Smart shading strategies – like awnings, pergolas, or even well-placed trees – can help keep your home cooler and reduce cooling costs. This ties into our belief in thoughtful, energy-efficient home design from the very beginning.

At Troxel Custom Homes, we specialize in building high-quality homes tailored to Michigan families. But our commitment doesn’t end when we hand over the keys. We are here to support you every season. If you have questions about home maintenance or you’re ready to begin your own custom build, we’re here to help!

Crafting Dreams: Building a Custom Home in 2024

In 2024, the prospect of building a new home offers a wide variety of exciting possibilities, with advancements in construction technology, customization, and sustainability. As a custom home builder, our team at Troxel Custom Homes has a front row seat to the evolving trends and demands of homeowners seeking to bring their dream homes to life.

The era of smart homes is in full swing, and in 2024, homeowners are seeking seamless integration of technology into their living spaces. At Troxel Custom Homes, incorporating smart home features such as automated lighting, security systems, and window coverings has become commonplace. Homeowners are looking for homes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also technologically advanced, providing convenience and efficiency.

In 2024, the desire for unique and personalized living spaces has reached new heights. Custom home builders play a pivotal role in bringing these dreams to fruition. From designing custom layouts to selecting materials that reflect individual taste, the emphasis is on creating homes that resonate with the homeowner’s personality and lifestyle. Collaboration between builders and homeowners is key to ensuring that every detail is meticulously tailored to meet the client’s vision; and that is what we strive for at Troxel Custom Homes.

We are also seeing a shift in the way homeowners perceive living spaces. There is a growing demand for flexible and multifunctional areas that adapt to changing needs. At Troxel Custom Homes, creating versatile spaces that can serve multiple purposes, such as a home office that can transform into a guest room, is essential. Adaptable designs cater to the evolving lifestyle of homeowners, providing them with spaces that grow with their changing needs.

With a growing awareness of energy costs, energy-efficient design has become a cornerstone of modern home construction. Custom home builders are increasingly incorporating features such as high-quality insulation with air-sealing technologies and energy efficient HVAC systems to create homes that are not only comfortable but also minimize energy consumption. This not only benefits the environment, but also translates to long-term cost savings for homeowners.

These energy-efficient ideas are also showing that homeowners are increasingly prioritizing sustainability. Building with environmentally conscious materials and implementing green building practices not only reduces the carbon footprint, but also contributes to long-term savings.

Building a new home in 2024 is an exciting journey that involves blending innovation and personalization. As a custom home builder, staying attuned to the latest trends and technologies is crucial to meeting the expectations of homeowners seeking to create their dream residences. By integrating smart home features, prioritizing customization, creating flexible living spaces, focusing on energy efficiency, and embracing sustainability, Troxel Custom Homes is working hard to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of residential construction – resulting in our ability to provide you with the best possible home for you and your family for years to come.

Creating not just a house, but a home.

Creating not just a house, but a home.

It’s a great feeling to end up with a home that’s completely and totally you through building a custom home; but making some of the design choices can seem scary at first. Most people, when thinking of building a new home, aren’t quite sure where to begin. A tip we like to give our clients is to just start simple. You don’t have to have your entire home planned at once. Take your time. Explore ideas. Browse through and save your favorite photos from magazines and websites like Houzz, so you can refer to them later. While you’re searching, take into account all of the different types and styles of homes you seem to gravitate towards. Do you like the cozy minimalist look, or prefer an eclectic contemporary style? Is a home theater a must have, or have you always dreamed of specific trim details? The biggest thing to remember is that you want your overall design to be cohesive and consistent. Having an overall aesthetic will make it much easier to stick to a style as your design process furthers, and making decisions between a few favorites is more of a breeze. Now that you have taken the time to think about styles, small details, and aesthetics, look it over again. Have you captured what is important to YOU? Can you picture yourself preparing a meal in your kitchen while your loved ones are gathered in the cozy living area?

The best part of building a custom home is that it will be uniquely yours. It’s something you can call your own and you have the final say on all of the design choices. In partnership with the Troxel Custom Homes design team and the benefit of many years building people’s dreams, Troxel Custom Homes will be your guide through the entire process. There are many vendors that are also part of the Troxel Tribe that will be by your side to help put together all of the little details along the way.

Welcoming 2021

Welcoming 2021

As we wrap up 2020, we want to take a moment to reflect on all that life has to offer amidst these crazy and challenging times.

The global pandemic, along with many other obstacles, has challenged us to tackle and look at life differently. Despite all of the negatives that happened this year, there were also many positives along the way. We are happy to welcome new families into ours with the homes that we have completed, and the projects we have started this year.

We are grateful for our employees and our clients. We have appreciated all of the patience as we had to find a few new ways to work to ensure everyone’s safety so we could get back to work. We are also thankful for our vendors and trade contractors that have all stepped up this year. The loyalty and persistence shown all year round, through the ups and downs, has been such a relief and helping hand in getting through this year.

We are looking forward to an exciting 2021, and being able to see and interact with everyone in our community once again.
